Explore the Wild Beauty of Senja

Join us for an unforgettable adventure across Senja, Norway’s Arctic gem. Hike through lush valleys, dramatic peaks, and Sami culture, while crossing rivers and soaking in breathtaking fjords. Enjoy cozy cabins, delicious meals, and good company. Whether you're a seasoned hiker or nature lover, this tour offers a true escape into the heart of the Arctic.

Day 1
Far above the Arctic Circle, Tromsø—the capital of the North—welcomes us. We’ll gather at 9:00 a.m. and, from there, travel in our minibus for three and a half hours to the southwestern tip of Senja. We begin our week with a visit to the Skrolsvik Fort, a World War II site. Over dinner, there will be plenty of time to get to know each other and discuss the days ahead.

Day2

Our hike leads us to the nearby peninsula and the scenic Dronningruta trail. Lunch will be enjoyed on the beach, so don’t forget your swimwear—the sea invites a refreshing dip. Afterward, we’ll visit the Kaperdalen Open-Air Museum (Sami village) and then drive to Sifjord. There, we’ll settle into a charming house for the next two days, with breathtaking views of the fjord. ~7.4 km

Day3 With only our daypacks, we’re dropped off by our minibus at Ånderdalen National Park. Over the next few hours, we’ll experience a full range of vegetation as we hike from coast to snow. We’ll enjoy lunch atop a peak, soaking in the stunning views—keep an eye out for reindeer! Before we descend, we’ll cross an 800-meter high pass. From there, it’s a downhill trek to the mountain road, where Tomas will be waiting with the car. Afterward, we’ll head back to Sifjord for a second night. 11 km, ~800m ascent / 550m descent Day 4 Today, an optional short hike invites you to explore the peaks surrounding Sifjord. Before lunch, we’ll drive back to the pass, where today’s adventure picks up right where we left off yesterday. Taking advantage of the landscape, we’ll wind our way through various valleys, heading northeast. There's a good chance we'll cross our first river today! In the Senjabu cabin, we’ll set up our camp for the night, with fresh drinking water from the nearby stream. 11.4 km, ~50m ascent / 250m descent Day 5 Today marks our longest hike of the trip. We’ll steadily ascend along a valley, soon leaving the treeline behind and entering the characteristic tundra. Before long, we’ll cross a pass and begin our descent toward the sea. Along the way, we’ll wade through more rivers, with birch forests guiding us. Finally, we’ll meet Tomas again at sea level. To celebrate our successful trek across Senja, we’ll treat ourselves to pizza in Gibostad before we settle into much-anticipated rest. 16.8 km, ~300m ascent / 330m descent Day 6 On our final day together, another highlight awaits. We’ll drive along the fjords to Fjordgård, where the famous Segla mountain peak towers above. A short ascent will take us to Hesten, offering a stunning view of Segla. After soaking in the scenery, we’ll enjoy a packed lunch before descending back to the village. We’re sure to make a stop at the local ice cream shop for something sweet! Next, we’ll head to the neighboring fjord, Botnhamn, and enjoy a scenic ferry ride for the next hour. At 5:00 p.m., we’ll bid farewell to our guests in Tromsø. 6 km, 550m ascent / descent.

Requirements

You'll need recent hiking experience, including a multi-day hike (15 km/day), and should test your gear before the trekking. Prepare for Norway’s unpredictable weather, with sun, wind, fog, rain, or cold possible. Expect around 6 hours of walking per day on trails ranging T1-T3, with brief challenging sections.

Accommodation
We’ll be staying in rented houses or mountain cabins, with twin rooms typically shared by two guests.

Meals
Meals are simple, self-cooked, and prepared with care, with lunches enjoyed as a picnic to keep things portable and adaptable. We offer options for vegetarian and lactose-free diets—just let us know your dietary needs so we can plan ahead.

Meeting Point
We’ll meet in downtown Tromsø to gather the group and kick things off. Please avoid bringing hard-shell suitcases; duffel bags work best to fit everyone’s gear in the limited trunk space.

Risks

Emergency exits are limited, and response times may be delayed. Boat/bus schedules depend on the weather, so please allow flexibility for return flights. Participants are responsible for their health and fitness, and a signed waiver is required.
